Review:
I really wanted Ginger to work. Unfortunately, the results are mixed. Ginger's extension is easily launched from menu bar and provides a pop-up screen into which text can be pasted or typed. In a perfect world, this would happen inline and not require a secondary window to cut and paste from. Spelling and grammar errors are supposed to highlight. Options to fix perceived problems are revealed when the highlight is clicked. Quickly clicking a button will activate their "rephrase" engine which will quick check sentence structure and suggest improvements. The spell check works quite well - although this is of little comfort as Chrome has a robust spell check built into the browser. I was most interested in the grammar check and Ginger didn't deliver.

I tried the following phrases to check different grammatical errors, none were fixed:
  • A double negative - "I don't want no pudding."
  • A run-on sentence - "I went to the store I got milk and cookies."
  • Subject/verb agreement - "Matt like fish."
  • Verb tense error - "I will eat fish for dinner and drank milk with my dinner."
My homonym test was successful, "Their goes my freedom. There going to bring they're suitcases" was changed to "There goes my freedom. They're going to bring their suitcases."

Grammar is a challenge, and I applaud Ginger for giving it a go. Sadly, the go falls short.
